Five years ago today, at 9am, I slipped away from my desk at Dolly magazine and walked to my hand doctor’s office with excitement. Two weeks prior I’d had surgery to remove fluid on my left middle finger and biopsies to try and work out why I had strange little lumps popping up all over my hand arm. Being a firm fixture on the Sydney social scene, the cast I’d had to wear for the two weeks was a drag. It was uncomfortable and impossible to hide in photographs, and I was peeved off having to type with one hand at work. With the MTV awards just two days away, I was keen to get the thing off.
