The most important thing I learnt while studying at the Institute For Integrative Nutrition is that there is no one diet that is right for everyone. We are all made up differently and we all thrive on different diets. Also, we thrive on different diets at different points in our lives, which is why I believe it’s important not to pigeon hole yourself and dogmatically pledge to follow a certain diet.

GUEST POST BY YVETTE LUCIANO.

Speaking as someone who has been on the other side of Pink October, I completely agree with everything Jess mentioned HERE.

When I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer at 29 years-old two years ago, I was posted big packages of information, a hot pink diary for my doctors appointments and a newsletter full of (much, much older women’s) stories and their tales of husbands leaving them after breast cancer surgery. It was hell in a post-pack.

I was hanging out with some friends a while ago and we were chatting about how long we think it will be until we decide we’re ready to pop out some kids. One of my friends said to me, “You will probably have to wait until you start eating proper food though, won’t you? Because you will be eating for two then.” I let the comment slide, but my sensitive side felt like it had just been slapped. Proper food?! Gosh, because what I eat now is not proper? This is just one of many occasions when my eating habits have been judged by my well-meaning loved ones who don’t quite understand why I eat the way I eat.

Dr Frank Lipman is an absolute breath of fresh air in the medical community, and it is a damn shame that he is part of the minority of doctors who are so onto it.

“I see myself as a partner in my patient´s health journey,” Dr Lipman states on his website. “A large part of what I do is teach patients how to get well and stay healthy. But the first step in any program is for you, the patient, to take responsibility for your own health.”

Chatting with Daniel Vitalis was one of the most interesting interviews I have ever done. He is so energetic, entertaining and magnetic – and thinks so differently to almost everyone in the nutrition world.

Daniel is a Leading Health, Nutrition, and Personal Development Strategist and a Nature Based Philosopher. He encourages us to “ReWild”, by teaching that our invincible health is a product of living in alignment with our biological design and our role in the ecosystem.

As many of you know, I had a super high dose of chemotherapy drugs pumped through my left arm just after my first cancer diagnosis. The radical poisoning didn’t work, hence why I was led to take control of my health via all natural means. What the chemo did do, however, is leave my body with high amounts of heavy metals – which are incredibly difficult to eliminate, and make healing a very slow process. Four years since my conventional “treatment”, I am still dealing with the ramifications and I’m now introducing several detoxification tactics to chelate the toxins from my tissues. One of these tactics is taking the superfood chlorella.

As you guys know, I love me some reality TV. The Voice, MasterChef, Keeping Up With The Kardashians (don’t judge me), and The Biggest Loser are all part of my guilty viewing repertoire.   In a past life, down time and vegging out consisted of sitting down in front of the telly with a bowl of ice cream to watch Friends or Melrose Place re-runs. These days, I park myself in front of the computer with some kind of blended fruit/cacao/oatmeal creation and immerse myself in fresh new… Read More
