I’m so excited about today’s interview with my good friend Dr Sherrill Sellman. A little while ago Sherrill told me about something called Nutritional Genomic Testing, which is a simple test that tells you, based on your genes, where you are most vulnerable and most at risk for creating poor health.
Being the curious cancer patient that I am, I will take any opportunity to locate all of the pieces of my personal health puzzle, so I asked Sherrill to test me and give me a consultation.
All I did was spit in a tube and send it away to the Smart DNA lab, and then I was given my own personal DNA blueprint. Sherrill talked me through my results, and it was very easy to see why my body was vulnerable to cancer. The test taught me that I am the gene type that doesn’t handle living in the modern world very well as I have trouble coping with the amount of toxins we are exposed to.
In this video, we discuss …
+ Why this test is so important when forming an individualised diet, lifestyle and supplement regime (and why it’s definitely not one-size-fits-all).
+ The results of my test and why it’s no surprise that I was diagnosed with cancer.
+ What foods I should be avoiding, and which ones are supportive of my health. For instance, I’m not someone who thrives on a high fat diet (as is so very popular at the moment).
+ The risk factors Sherrill has seen come up in almost 100 per cent of the clients she has tested.
+ How this test has saved her life, and how what she was doing before was setting herself up for degenerative diseases.
I was only planning on making this chat 20 minutes long, but it’s so interesting that I let it run an extra 10 minutes. I really think that you will benefit from hearing what Sherrill has to say.

Let me know what you think of the interview. I would love for you to add to the conversation in the comments below!
Positive affirmation for the day: Nothing is worth more than this moment.

Super interesting! Thanks for sharing.
fascinating! how would I go about getting this test?
Cara » You can get in touch with Dr Sellman here: https://whatwomenmustknow.com/?page_id=188 x
How much does it cost to get this test done?
Olivia » The test was a couple of hundred I think (I had mine last year and can’t remember the exact amount), and then there is a cost for Sherrill consultation. You can get in touch with her here to ask about pricing: https://whatwomenmustknow.com/?page_id=188
Thanks Jess!
Thank you so much Jessica for this wonderful interview with Dr Sherrill Sellman. I’m super excited that a test like this actually exists. I’ve suffered with stage 4 endometriosis for a while but since 2006 I changed my diet and lifestyle, continually researching ways to improve my health. Few weeks ago I celebrated my 7 years free of surgery.
With discoveries such as Nutritional Genomic Testing, my health will continue to be without surgeries and pain. Best wishes on your journey to health. Ciao
Hi Susie, Maybe some time you might like to check out the ‘Endometriosis Bible and Violet Prorocol’ book. It’s on my ‘to-get’ list. See http://endometriosisbible.com/
Kind regards, Lyall
Thanks Lyall. I’ll surely check it out! I thought I had heard of all the books on endo!!! LOL Thank you again! Ciao
Wow Jess that’s amazing, thankfully your diet is already on the right path, does the findings of the coffee and liver part impact on your cleansing with coffee enemas? Thanks for such an eye opening post! I am in constant admiration of the commitment that you have not only for yourself but for your guidance and advise for “us warriors in the making”
Tracy » Thanks Tracy! Nope, not at all. In fact, because my liver struggles so much Dr Sellman said that my coffee enemas are one of the best things I can be doing. Coffee has a totally different effect when it’s taken in an enema than when you drink it. xx
Thank you Jess for sharing this interview. It was great.
Blessings, Lyall
Thank you watching that was really interesting. I will be taking a look at whatwomenmustknow. It seems like its really helped clarify some things for you. I’d be worried for some people who don’t have such a positive outlook though, that they might become a little defeated by what the results show them or scared that they will get sick because their DNA isn’t up to scratch. Could they manifest the worst case through fear? Our DNA is so definite and unfixable, then again I guess why should I wait till I’m sick to look into it or find out what my body can and can’t do. Oh I’m very undecided about this. Haha.
good timing Jess, I literally just finished Dr Sellmans book Hormone Hersey last night, and was going to research how to do the DNA testing today, must be a sign
What a gift! Thank you so much Jess for this post.
This sounds similar to the metabolic typing diet??
So interesting, thank you Jess. How do you feel about having devoted 2 years of your life to healing through Gerson, yet now learning, via this test, that there are still critical issues to resolve?
Suzanne @ DrSuzanneGelb.com » Hi Suzanne, Everything that I’ve done with Gerson has helped me resolving the issues that this test uncovered so I feel really good about it. This test has told me the vulnerabilities in my DNA that can lead to problems if not addressed with the appropriate diet and lifestyle. Gerson was the perfect modality for me and my body.
Hi Jess, thanks for sharing and being so honest with all your information ! I have learnt and been introduced to so many things through all your information. All the best !!
Jess, you are small but big!! ![]()
On a different note, I would love if you could do a research on horseradish and share your findings. Thx.a~
Hi Jessica
Where on Sherrill’s site can you find this testing? (I followed your link)
Does she offer it? I’m interested and would like to order. LOVE figuring out the individual way! Thanks for all you do!
Sorry, I didn’t look at comments…got the link! Thanks
According to this link, the cost is $950, not a couple of hundred. I would be very wary of shelling out that much money for a test run by a celebrity TV doctor.
linder » Hi Linder, the test was a couple of hundres (or maybe $300) and then Sherrill’s consultation is on top of that.
jennifer » If you click on her contact tab and get in touch with her she can give you all of the information. x
This is so interesting! Thank you for sharing
Much love from Canada
Sounds interesting but as with all these things I get annoyed that so many things are described as a fantastic thing that is going to save your life (sort of) but hey I’m pretty much the only one who does this test and it does come with a cost… Yes, I know everything costs but still. Plus… The human DNA is extremely complex and as far as I know people research for years to find what genes are responsible for what in the body. So how come this particular Dr can look at a DNA test and see what type of diet you should eat and how much toxins you can handle et.c.? What exactly does the test check for? Don’t mean to sound totally negative – I think it’s great if it works, I was just born an analyzing skeptic.
I agree. This is all extremely exciting and I have no doubt that nutritional genomics will continue to move in leaps and bounds and offer great assistance to the health and well-being of many people.
However, it seems too soon to think that the tests available could provide enough accurate detail to offer people specific dietary and nutrition advice. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine at Endeavour so I find this information particularly fascinating and love the fact that it highlights the concept of “one size fits all” not being the right way to go..but I also think it’s important to remain critical and analytical of such promotions.
In the brief research I just began I found this article interesting with the background information it provides http://www.eatingwell.com/nutrition_health/nutrition_news_information/how_to_eat_for_your_dna
In saying all this Jess, I truly admire your optimistic, open-minded and “go-get-em” outlook; it is very inspirational and I think you are doing amazing things not just for yourself but for thousands of people who connect to you every day! Happy days
Hi Amy,
I am considering a few different options for my next step in study. Amongst them is AIAS, IIN, ACNT and Endeavour. What has your experience with Endeavour been so far?
Warm regards,
Jess
Hi Jess,
I started at Endeavour in September last year. I’m working full time as a primary school teacher at the moment so am completing subjects online bit by bit. 2 down, many to go! I have been very happy with Endeavour so far. I love the set up of the online courses and feel confident that the course is recognised and seen as credible. I did quite a bit of research into different ones and know several people who completed their studies via Endeavour and are doing well as Naturopaths etc now. If you would like any further information feel free to email me [email protected]
I’m in my 10th year of teaching after going straight to uni and work out of high school and I finally feel like I’ve found my passion ![]()
Best wishes in whatever you decide to do!
Amy
Hiya lovely, I’m also an über curious patient and have been since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Even though I’m over half way through Gerson, doing it religiously, I’ve had to do additional investigating like your Mum [thank you for sharing that - I learned so much and also have a hair analysis plus a few other things on the go]. I understand that Gerson was actually perfect for you, well, obviously, but specifically based on the info from the genomic test. But… I would love to know what you’d do now, given all that you’ve learned since the start of your healing journey, if you found out part way through your Gerson Therapy that, let’s say, your genetic type requires high fat or animal protein?
You and your mum are THE most generous and amazing role models for anyone on a wellness mission – you continually inspire, educate and empower me on what can often be a bit of a lonely journey. Thank you both so much xx
thanks Jess for the intriguing info. It’s definitely great to know such testing is available, should we want it. I have found it overwhelming to try and deduce which information and ‘practioners’ are credible, legitimate etc. “Healing” is a boom industry. I think it’s preferable that we could invest a little money in “prevention” though and I would be very intrigued to get this done and see if there is any correlation with the cancer my family members, and I have been diagnosed with. Forewarned is forearmed and $1K is less than what most ppl spend on takeaway food in a year.
thanks …. love your reasearch and thankyou for your warrior approach!
Thank you Jess this is amazing information! I have a question for you, after listening to your interview I started to search and read more on Nutritional Genomic Testing and have found many local naturopaths and business that provide this service close to home rather via skype. Did your research lead you to many providers and your conclusion was working with Dr Sherrill Sellman would give you the best holistic solution i.e. interpreting your test results and creating a wellness plan tailored for you or do you feel that those that have an accreditation in this type of testing ensure a consistent standard approach across all practitioners?
Hi there Jess,
I have been receiving your daily emails for a few months now and im really enjoying the topics you discuss. You have been such a great role model for me. I loved watching this video
I completed the SmartDNA test last year and found it sooo interesting and very helpful on my journal to wellness. Its been hard to explain in simple term to my friends how it works. Dr Sherrill does a great job of explaining the process, so now i can just show them this video.
It sounds like with have some similar depleted genes. Unfortunately my Glutathione gene’s are also depleted and my phase II liver detox is compromised, along with a few other things. I have been doing coffee enimas, along with a new supplement regime for a couple of months now to help my body detox & heal & im feeling so much better already
After 7 years of trying many doctor’s & natural practitioners with not much progress, this test has finally provided answers to some key issues.
Im so happy that i have found out this information now.. I turn 26 this year & hopefully will be able to clean up my body before having children in the future.
Just thought i would also add- i am also currently at Endeavour studying Nutrition. I love it there! I dont exactly want to talk down any school on the post, but i attended AIAS previously to Endeavour and i personally didnt have the best experience. I have found the Endeavour staff to be more supportive and encouraging compared to AIAS. I havent had any experience with ACNT, but i have heard their courses are great.. Would love to see you at Endeavour though ![]()
Im sure with your passion and commitment to wellness that you will succeed wherever you choose to continue your learning.
Goodluck xx
Wow, so fascinating. It can be confusing to use guesswork, essentially, to treat your body- this seems like such a valuable tool. Jessica did you find the results kind of overwhelming/depressing? As she was talking I felt a bit bad for you, it just seemed a lot to take in. Or maybe it helped you feel more empowered to understand everything better…
Anyway thanks to both of you for a great video-
Michele
Michele » Hi Michele, oh absolutely not. It made me feel excited and empowered! It gave me answers as to why my liver has always struggled, among other things. I’ve always believed that there’s no point dwelling in disempowering “why me” mode for too long. This information is just more pieces of the puzzle to bring my body to its best health. x
Hi Jess,
Really enjoyed watching this video as I have just heard about the test from a Natropath group here in West Australia. You might be interested to know that the Nutrigenomics testing is done in Melbourne, apparantly by one of the scientists who was associated with the discovery of the BRAC gene. Not sure who the lab is as I will have the test done through the clinic here.
Thanks for being you
