Where To Eat In LA And New York

When it comes to holiday destinations, I couldn’t have picked better places than Los Angeles and New York for somewhere to go where I wouldn’t have to worry about straying from my dietary requirements. From the amount of requests I’ve received to share where we ate in these locations, I know that heaps of you may be having the same idea.
So, here are my picks for eating an organic, plant-based whole food diet while visiting LA and NYC.
LOS ANGELES
We ate here literally every day. As I mentioned in this post, I booked our accommodation within walking distance so that we could eat all our meals here. This is my happy place. There is one in LA/Hollywood area and also one in Venice.
This place has the best smoothies on the planet. We also ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here while we were in Santa Monica and everything was phenomenal.
We hired biked in Santa Monica and rode down to Venice just to visit Moon Juice – the coolest juice bar ever.
I’m bummed I didn’t get to eat here this trip, but I did when I came to LA with my mum prior to going to the Gerson Clinic.
Ditto M Café.
Other places I’ve heard are awesome:
Kind Kreme (organic vegan ice cream!)
NEW YORK
Amazing organic, raw, vegan restaurant with a gorgeous atmosphere.
Organic and vegan.
Talk about fancy. This place is organic, local and fine dining – a combo I am yet to come across anywhere else. The host told us that heaps of celebrities dine there, and apparently this is Hugh Jackman’s favourite restaurant. It also serves meat, so non-veggies (like my boy) are happy.
Organic, vegan, and so yum! This place has such an extensive menu and I was bummed we only ate here once.
The organic, cold pressed juice bar that saved me! They also have salads and yummy snacks for sale.
Fresh organic juices, raw vegan snacks and sweets. This place is owned by the same people who run Pure Food & Wine.
We stumbled across this place while randomly wandering around uptown New York while all of downtown was without power. I had the most amazing sweet potato soup and a French Lentil salad.
We stumbled across this place on our last day and wish we’d found it sooner. They have organic burgers made from grass-fed and wild meats. They also have a great veggie burger on a lettuce wrap that I ate while Tallon was devouring Bison.
We need this here in Australia! With one just two blocks away from our apartment, it was super easy to buy food and juices.
Other places I’ve heard are awesome:
Do you have any other places that we can add to the list?
Positive affirmation for the day: I turn jealousy and envy into inspiration.

Seed kitchen in venice beach (LA) has the best tempeh burgers.
I loved lula’s sweet apothecary in NYC – vegan, homemade ice-cream, and babycakes on the lower east side has the yummiest vegan treats – i loved the donuts.
I just got back from one month in New York and Babycakes was just around the corner from my apartment – absolute LOVE! Really wanted to try out ABC Kitchen too but ran out of time. We need Wholefoods in Oz and pronto.
OMG – Babycakes is SO good! And lunch at ABC Kitchen was definitely my #1 meal in 3 months of traveling in LA/NY.
I am loving all these helpful hints and tips you keep giving us. I am going to both New York and L.A in January (am so excited for it) and have been soaking up every thing you’ve been saying.
Me and my travel buddy have realised we can’t be eating just anything when we travel because we don’t eat that way at home and are going to need to take the time to source some healthier more us food options as opposed to just eating anywhere for the convenience factor, it only leaves us feeling more lethargic and bleh afterwards, definitely what you don’t want when so many sights to see.
Quintessence in NYC. Another delicious raw restaurant: http://www.raw-q.com/
Definitely Quintessence in NYC! I’m surprised it’s not #1 on your list!
America has so many options! These guys need to come for a visit and set up shop down under.. could you imagine.. Sooo good x
You forgot Le Pain Quotidian. It is in both NY and LA and has plenty of vegan/organic options.
Le Pain is awesome! Their lentil salad is soooo good!
Thankyou so much for this, we’re going next year and this will be a huge help! Xi
I would love to hear what your fave places to eat on the Sunny Coast and Brisbane are? My husband’s family live there and when we visit we don’t eat nearly as healthy compared to when we are home. I always end up feeling sluggish. I was also wondering how I am now going to possibly survive there for 3 weeks with my Vitamix and juicer!
there used to be an amazing cafe- kind living cafe- at maleny on the sunshine coast and its now moving to brisbane! it’s raw vegan and amazing. even my meat-loving dad enjoyed it! there’s also raw and peace at maleny, ground cafe at buderim and the natural food store cafe at buderim which I know I will be visiting when I’m next on the sunshine coast!
Thanks Cheyenne! I will pass this along to my sis-in-law as well.
Thanks so much for the AWESOME recommendations Jess – I wish I could fly over there right now! I have been to Candle 79 in NYC and it was amazing. So happy to hear you had such a wonderful time. Thank you for your inspirational and helpful posts…you are amazing xx
Candle 79 also has a less expensive, more casual version Candle cafe
That’s it I’m going to the U.S!
I ate at Candle 79 while in New York recently – definitely a food highlight during the six weeks I was there! It’s vegan and delicious.
In NYC there is also veggie/vegan Jivamuktea cafe http://jivamuktiyoga.com/cafe/index.html, my fave juice bar/raw food chain Juice Generation, the Juice Press,
For high end dining Blue Hill http://www.bluehillfarm.com/food/blue-hill-new-york and other nice farm to table places like The Fat Radish http://thefatradishnyc.com/, Friend of a Farmer http://friendofafarmerny.com/
Market Table http://www.markettablenyc.com/ One Lucky Duck and ABC Kitchen are my absolute fave’s. I practically LIVE at Whole Foods, there’s one 3 blocks from me. There are so many other small places too. The E. Village and LES have so many vegetarian/vegan places. There are even mobile food trucks for juices and healthy food. Hope that helps!
Thanks a lot for this! I am going to L.A. next month and I know exactly where to go!
I never had any desire to travel to New York or LA but now I want to go just for the amazing food choices!!
Great lists! I would definitely add Peacefood Cafe to the NYC one. Their food is fantastic.
Native Foods, LA, and other cities, 118 degrees LA and most definitely WholeFoods. Thanks for other recommendations.
I live within a five minute walk of Cafe Flore in Silver Lake and have to say it’s the best! I love Cafe Gratitude and RFD as well but there are small vegan spots all over Los Angeles. We are spoiled here! Good thing those hollywood types love the health food;) Another place that comes highly recommended around here is Sage Organic Bistro. When I visit my sis in Brooklyn we always go to Bliss Cafe in Wiliamsburg. LOVE it.
Oh my gosh, this is so exciting! Thank you so much Jess, cant wait to head over!
Yes!! Thanks Jess!
I’m going to USA next October, will definitely be visiting some of these places.
I’d love to know of any similar places in Melbourne if you know of any?
xo Jorja
Jorja Woodward » Awesome! In Melbourne, I love Yong Green Food on Brunswick St Fitzroy x
I wish Whole Foods Market would expand to Australia too.
Anyone have any knowledge of raw food places on Oahu? I thought there would be more raw food here in Hawaii than I am finding.
Kind Kreme in L.A is. amazeballs. I mean seriously, healthy, delicious gourmet ice cream? I would move to L.A for that alone.
Greensquare tavern in NYC! ORGANIC, GRASS FED
HI Jess, when traveling, which kind of water do you use for enemas? Thanks
Celine » Hi Celine, I buy purified water when travelling for enemas – either in a cask or glass. x
I’m bummed Gobo http://www.goborestaurant.com/west/index.htm didn’t make the NYC list. After living there for 10 years, that place was always my favorite vegan restaurant there. You list some good ones, but this is the best. In LA- Euphoria Loves RAWvolution http://www.euphorialovesrawvolution.com/ is a good one in Santa Monica. Awesome smoothies (they call them Salads In A Blender)!
