5 Awesome Books by 7 Awesome People
This is an extra special book recommendation post because, for the first time, I am friends with each one of the book’s authors. The recommendations are certainly not rooted in bias – I am just super proud to be able to toot the horns of these amazing people for the brilliant work they are producing to the world.
I have just finished reading each of these books, and I highly recommend you add them to your reading list toot sweet.
1. GETTING REAL ABOUT HAVING IT ALL
By Megan Dalla-Camina
![getting_real[1]](http://www.thewellnesswarrior.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/getting_real1.jpg)
I met Megan at the Hay House Writer’s Workshop a couple of months ago. Getting Real About Having It All is Megan’s first book, and the book that won her a publishing deal with Hay House! Pretty impressive, right. This book is a must-read for all women who want to live an amazingly full life – without the usual side-effect of burnout.
2. HUNGRY FOR CHANGE
By James Colquhoun and Laurentine Ten Bosch
![hungry_for_change[1]](http://www.thewellnesswarrior.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/hungry_for_change1.jpg)
You guys know James and Laurentine from their films Food Matters and Hungry For Change, but this incredible couple have just released their first book. Also titled Hungry For Change, this tome is a brilliant guide to breaking free of diets. It also contains a heap of amazing recipes in the back.
3. SOUL SURVIVOR
By Carren Smith
![soul_survivor[1]](http://www.thewellnesswarrior.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/soul_survivor1.jpg)
Carren Smith is one of the people who I respect most in this world, and after reading her book I’m sure you will feel the same way. I know Carren because she is my speaking coach and wonderful business mentor, but reading her memoir revealed even more of this incredible woman.
A year after losing her partner to suicide in 2001, Carren flew to Bali with two of her friends with plans to end her own life. The first night they were in Bali was the night of the Bali Bombings, and Carren and her friends were at the club that was attacked. Carren survived, but her friends didn’t. Carren’s story is so tragic, yet it’s her triumph over tragedy and extraordinary resilience that makes this book so compelling.
4. CRAZY SEXY KITCHEN
By Kris Carr
![crazy_sexy_kitchen[1]](http://www.thewellnesswarrior.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/crazy_sexy_kitchen1.jpg)
I challenge anyone to test out the recipes in Kris Carr’s latest book and still think that vegan, healthy eating is boring. In Crazy Sexy Kitchen, Kris has teamed up with plant foods chef Chad Sarno to deliver a book full of plant-empowered inspiration and mouth-watering vegan meals.
5. LIKE CHOCOLATE FOR WOMEN
By Kim Morrison and Fleur Whelligan
![like_chocolate[1]](http://www.thewellnesswarrior.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/like_chocolate1.jpg)
This book isn’t new, but that doesn’t make it any less special. It’s a classic, must read. An ode to essential self care and self kindness, Like Chocolate For Women is the book all of us need on our bookshelves. I recently spoke at an event with Kim (pictured above) and she is one of the sweetest people ever. I’m so proud to endorse her message.

Your website has been such an inspiration to get back to doing the things that you really enjoy best. I have been reading the book you recommended, ‘Wild,’ which has inspired me to go even further outdoors then I normally do everyday. I am 20 years old and now writing my first novel which I have said I always will do and it is a topic I am sure you and all your viewers will be interested in reading. When I eventually finish I will send you a copy
Who is the author of “Wild”?
The author is Cheryl Strayed. She’s an amazing writer…
I’ve just ordered Kris Carr’s book – so excited!
Wow, you’ve been able to meet some of my ‘heros’, you lucky girl Jess. I received Kris Carr’s new book last week and am LOVING it! I have loved all her stuff, Crazy, Sexy, Cancer, etc. Also a huge fan of Hungry for Change and Food Matters team. I have also just bought the ‘Raw for Life’ and ‘Simply Raw’ DVD bonus set (which is 50% off FOR A LIMITED TIME)!!!! Big fan of David Wolfe, the raw food advocate, Jason Vale, Jon Gabriel, and on my list goes. Thanks for sharing these Jess.
Thanks for sharing! I really want to check out all of them – just received Crazy Sexy Kitchen in the mail and it’s awesome. Beautiful book!
My favourite book which I tell everyone to read is A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson. I read it over and over again and pick it up when I need to get rid of the ego!
Does Crazy Sexy Kitchen use soy?
Yes, but not a lot – she actually answered that question here! http://kriscarr.com/blog/your-searing-questions-answered/
