8 Things I’m Loving At The Moment

Posted September 17, 2012

The month since my last 8 Things I’m Loving post has been one of the busiest I’ve had in a long while. I’ve been creating my biggest universe offering to date, flying around the country and hanging out with amazing people, eating incredible healthy food, and basking in the incomparable weather that spring brings to the Sunshine Coast.

1. THE LIFESTYLE TRANSFORMATION GUIDE LAUNCHES TOMORROW!

Sweet purple unicorns! The Wellness Warrior Lifestyle Transformation Guide is almost here! Tomorrow you will be able to see the project I have spent the last seven months working on. It is my biggest, grandest, most momentous project to date, and I am so excited to reveal it to you.

Check out some pics from the making of the promo video:

2. SPRING ON THE SUNSHINE COAST

This is the view I am blessed with each afternoon when I take Edie for a walk. I’ve lived here for over 10 years, and it never gets old.

3. TRIP TO SYDNEY

A few weekends ago I went down to Sydney to attend the Hay House Writer’s Workshop and hang out with some of my best friends. The Writer’s Workshop was awesome, but my favourite part of the weekend was eating lunch at Sadhana Kitchen in Newtown … two days in a row. This place is my favourite organic café so far. I ordered the walnut mince tacos, green juice (served in Mason jars) and a goji ripe for dessert.

I also had the opportunity to meet up with my bloggy friends in person – Connie Chapman from a life of perfect days and Sian Richardson. The other girls in the pic above are Melissa Ambrosini from Path To Wellness and my friend Sarah Ranawake from Cleo magazine, who I have been tight with for yonks.

4. THE WORDS OF CHERYL STRAYED

If my weekly emails land in your inbox, you may already be aware that I’m a fan of Cheryl Strayed. I waxed lyrical about her book Wild a couple of weeks ago boldly proclaiming that it is one of the best books I’ve ever read. And I’ve read a lot of books. Once I finished Wild, I missed Cheryl’s words so much that I’ve just started reading another book of hers called Tiny Beautiful Things. So far, it’s amazing. I have to pause every few pages to re-read her soul-hugging sentences. This one is particularly spectacular:

“You have to live through it and love it and move on and be better for it and run as far as you can in the direction of your best and happiest dreams across the bridge that was built by your own desire to heal.”

Let that soak into your soul.

5. LORNA JANE’S ACTIVE NATION DAY

I was already a massive fan of Lorna Jane, but I love the brand and its namesake even more at the moment. Here is why:

1) They sent me a gorgeous new workout outfit (case in point above).

2) They are rolling out an awesome initiative called the Move Nourish Believe Movement. This is so simple and so important

3) They are holding an Active Nation Day on 30th September to raise awareness of the importance of health and fitness and to bring about a national day of action. I think we can all agree that this should be an everyday event. I myself need to practice what I preach more when it comes to exercise, and I’m using this as inspiration to kick start my new fitness routine. Go here to pledge your support for the cause and get in on the movement.

6. GUEST POSTING ON THE CONVERSATION.TV

Last week I got a little thrill out of seeing my name and words appear on one of my favourite websites – TheConversation.TV. I wrote a post called You Are What You Eat: Where The Real Food Fight Is. The story poses this question:

In a society where eating nutritionally devoid, chemicalised, synthetic “food-like substances” is normal, and organic, plant-based whole foods is “crazy” – where should the real food fight be?

Click here to check out the post.

7. THIS I KNOW BY SUSANNAH CONWAY

I have just finished reading this beautiful book and I highly recommend it. It’s so beautifully written that so many of Susannah’s sentences had me reaching for my sticky notes and marking the page to come back to again. If you’ve experienced grief, or want to read a book that feels like a long (and very eloquent) chat with a wise friend, bury your nose in this one.

8. GETTING EXCITED ABOUT SPEAKING GIGS

I never thought I would be able to say that. It wasn’t too long ago that my first reaction after being asked to speak somewhere was “oh shit!” I’m still no Oprah when it comes to on-stage confidence, but it feel so good to actually look forward to the gigs I have coming up. To get over my crippling fear of public speaking I have been working with an amazing speaking coach, Carren Smith.

If you want to see me speak, come along to …

An event on 3 October called the Pure Living Workshop hosted by Fresh Event Design. I will be joining Cyndi O’Meara, Therese Kerr (Miranda’s mum), and Dr Libby Weaver to talk about all things healthy. Go here to suss out tickets.

The Bloom Women’s Health & Wellbeing Expo in Cairns on Friday 12 October. Go here for details and tickets.

I also have a very exciting gig booked in for April next year, which I will tell you more about soon!

Positive affirmation for the day: My desire to heal is a potent foundation for my dreams.

Wow! So much amazing goodness!
After repeatedly hearing people raving about Cheryl Strayed’s ‘Wild’, I finally started it last week. I’m really enjoying it so far, although I keep having to put it down and leave it for a bit when I get too emotionally overwhelmed – her writing is so raw! In an awesome, smack-you-in-the-gut-with-a-dazed-and-confused-mullet kind of way. It means that you are definitely on a rollercoaster ride right along with her whilst reading. She is a really terrific writer, and I love this new quote you’ve posted too…

YAY so glad you got Tiny Beautiful Things! Cheryl lovers for life, haha :) Awesome round up honey, I can feel your excitement for tomorrow (dum, dum, dum DUUUUM!) leaping off the screen. xx

Amazing things to be thankful for! Your home on the Sunshine Coast looks so peaceful! So much inspiration in nature!
I love Cheryl – just started her book after watching Oprah interview her. And Lorna Jane is my absolute favourite workout wear. Her philosphy is also everything I stand for!
How awesome that you are getting over your speaking fears. I am sure soon enough you will be a pro.
XXx

So many joyful things! What a beautiful post Jess! And wow, I feel like today’s positive affirmation just (lovingly!) slapped me across the face – that one somehow went straight to my heart! THANK YOU lady; I’ll be sticking that baby right next to my screen today :) And YAYAYAYAY for tomorrow’s launch…. I can’t wait! <3

Why does Lorna Jane make their clothes in sweatshops in China yet sell their garments for an arm and a leg?

I think it’s great Jess promotes a healthy, ethical lifestyle… but why give advertising to ‘unethical’ Lorna Jane just because they sent out free things?

Hey Lu, have you read this somewhere lately? Would love to have a look if you have. I love Lorna Jane and spend quite a bit of money there but would hate to think i’m supporting that.

I am so excited for tomorrow! lksjofiuaeoiuenrseirue90re8reorj

Great article, Jess!

Sounds like you are “living the life!” at the moment!

I loved your article ‘you are what you eat: where the real food fight is’ and agree with you completely!

I spent my life eating ‘anything I liked’ including all the ‘processed, refined non-foods’ but now eat 90% low- fat raw vegan, with loads of home-made apple/cucumber/carrot/lemon juices etc, and I feel infinitely better these days!

Good luck with all of your ‘public speaking’ events!
Enjoy them!

Loved this post! I am so excited for tomorrow! Squeeeeee….! ! ! !

Brilliant post Jess! Am so excited for the launch of your Lifestyle Transformation Guide it will no doubt be an incredible resource of shiny inspirations and empowerment xx
