Wellness Warrior TV: Interview With Ian Gawler
If you have cancer, or love someone who has cancer than the absolute best thing that you can do today is set aside some time to watch this interview that I did with Ian Gawler.
If you’re not familiar with Ian (which I know won’t be many of you) he is kind of a big deal in the cancer / natural healing / mind-body medicine world. He is a natural cancer survivor of 34 years (double high five, Ian!), a best selling author of the cancer patient’s bible, You Can Conquer Cancer, and the founder of The Gawler Foundation.
My boyfriend Tallon and I spent 10 days at The Gawler Foundation’s Life and Living program just after my second diagnosis, and it was one of the major positive catalysts in my journey. Not only did we have a ball, but we left with tools to be able to cope with whatever the rest of our journey was going to hold for us.
Ian wasn’t at The Foundation while I was there, so when I bumped into him when I was in Melbourne recently, the star struck schoolgirl in me took over. You can only imagine how excited I was to then receive an email from Ian telling me how much he loves my work. He even asked me to write an article for his personal blog, which you can read here. Talk about a full circle moment.
In this interview, Ian chats about:
+ His personal journey with cancer
+ The number one element he credits for his healing
+ What an Indian healer said to him that caused a major mental shift and accelerated his healing
+ His advice to anyone who has just been diagnosed with cancer, or who has a loved one who has cancer
The video does go for 30 minutes, but I felt that it was too precious to edit. I know that the wisdom Ian shares would have been a Godsend for me when I was dealing with the dark cloud that cancer can bring, so I didn’t want to rob anyone of that relief.

Thanks Jess! My parents know Ian but I’ve unfortunately never had the chance to meet him (yet!). Great video!
Just listened to your interview with Ian Gawler and I thought that is was great. Last year I was diagnosed with CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demylenating Polyneuropathy) which is a rare nerve disease similar to MS and have been having medical treatment (plasmapheresis) that doesn’t seem to have helped. I have been researching natural therapies on the internet and have decided to try natural therapies, diet (paleo & juicing) and excercise instead of any further treatment so the video was very inspiring. I agree totally that you have to be in the right mind set to be able to carry through with the alternative approach. I look forward to receiving your daily updates.
Hi Mim,
Regards: Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy
May I suggest that you look at Dr. Rebecca Carley’s web site ( drcarley.com ) (U.S.A.) as she deals with auto-immune diseases and demyelination .
You can contact her on skype – skype name = drcarley1 Just check her web site for suitable times.
Also Dr. Russell Blaylock (U.S.A. – you can google his site) is very knowledgeable on demyelination. I don’t know how you might contact him though.
I have a special interest in demyelination because of a family member.
Kind regards, Lyall.
Wow…Wow…Wow…thanks so much Jess, this interview was brilliant and so perfect for me right now. On my journey with breast cancer and not choosing medical options, trust and faith is such a huge part of healing and hearing this today has given my so much…I know my body can heal if I only allow it to. Thanks again Jess
To happiness and health
Jayne
Hi Jess! What an amazing interview you had with Ian. I don’t think I’ve seen/listened to anything as inspiring in a long time.
Great post!
Another very good interview Jess. Kind regards, Lyall
… Jess, You are so blessed to have Tallon with you on your journey. Kind regards, Lyall.
Kristine and Lyall » I know! I appreciate how amazing he is every single day. I’m very blessed. Thank you!!
Thank you for your inspiring website Jess and for this interview with Ian Gawler, which I’m sure will help so many. I attended an MS retreat at the Gawler Foundation in 2003 and have not had a relapse since. I stopped medication six years ago. I continue to work full-time as an events manager and have a full and happy life. I listen to my body and take great care to get the sleep and rest I need, and I carefully manage my time and energy. In addition to the helpful advice about diet, exercise, meditation and support networks, the emotional strength and inner calm I gained from the retreat made it a life-changing experience. I am so grateful to Ian, Professor George Jelinek and the other amazing leaders at the Gawler Foundation.
Linda » Thanks so much for sharing your story Linda! That is so amazing to hear xx

Fantastic interview with so much information offered. Will recommend to clients, family & friends.
Thanks, Adri
This interview was so uplifting. It is fascinating to listen to someone that has lived this mindful lifestyle for so long, and had successful results. I don’t know why I need to be continually be reminded of the goodness that comes of making intelligent choices … but I need to hear it over and over. So thank you Jess… and thank you Ian… for sharing your remarkable insights.
Fantastic. I am an Occupational Therapist who currently works with those on their journey through cancer treatment. It’s great to be able to direct people to useful resources as they take the steps on their journey. Very inspiring!
Thanks xo
This was fantastic Jess! I’ve had Ian’s book for many years (I am well but as a registered nurse have an interest in the area) and have had the privilege of attending a number of meditation and wellness at the gawker foundation which is like visiting paradise!

Claire
