Wellness Warrior TV: Interview with Dr Sherrill Sellman
About a year ago my friend Cyndi O’Meara invited me to a wellness evening where Dr Sherrill Sellman spoke about women’s hormones. My mum and I went along, however being totally oblivious to the intricacy and importance of hormones, I thought mum would get more out of it than me. Boy, was I wrong. I left that evening feeling so proud to have lady parts, and also so angry that we are not taught the truth about them at any stage of our lives.
So when Dr Sellman emailed me to tell me she was back in town, I immediately jumped on the phone to my video guy Luke and told him to cue the cameras. I couldn’t wait to have some one-on-one time with Sherrill, and be able to share her wisdom with you guys.
Sherrill and I met at Lot 104 in Mooloolaba (my boyfriend’s café/bar/restaurant), hence the background noise in this video.
In this video, Sherrill talks about …
+ What women need to know about the pill (and what we should do instead)
+ What women need to know about infertility (and why it is so prevalent today)
+ What women need to know about breast cancer
+ What women need to know about menopause
Obviously these are all pretty hefty topics, so this interview is kind of like a tasting plate. Dr Sellman has agreed to let me dive deeper into each topic separately with her over Skype in the near future.

Loved this post and video!
Thanks so much for sharing x
Hi Jess,
Amazing interview and what a great bundle of info. Iam glad that I didn’t take hrt treatment that was proposed by my doctor. No drugs,. Good job Jess…..
Awesome video Jess! I’ve sent it to all my friends who are on the pill xx
Would be interested to see what the pill substitutes are.
Jess, thank you! I found this so interesting.
Thanks Jess, excellent interview, could not have come at a better time in my life.
At 42 (almost 5 years ago) I was diagnosed with breast cancer and went down mainstreame medicine treatment. As a result, I was thrown into menopause after my first chemotherapy. I have also had both ovaries removed. The sad thing is my libido is now very low, and my husband and I have struggled in this area since my diagnosis. What plan of action should I take to get the mojo back? Advice is welcome.
Hormones and libido…another possible topic for discussion with yourself and Sherrill?
Try Maca Powder
Its a superfood, helps stablised hormones and is a natural Aphrodisiac!
You can mix it into smoothies or water every day, only need about 1/4 teaspoon daily!
Ay, ay, maca is not this super food that might solve all your problems, just like a magic pill that you get prescribed at your doctor.
Me, and many others, with a sensetive digestion, has experienced that maca doesn’t actually help against constipation, unregular bowel movements and digestion. One might try it, but it’s no magic pill and it might not work for everyone.
Hi Jess,
I really enjoy all your posts, I have high copper low zinc and like your mum i had the copper 7 iud in for approx 8 years. The thing is Jess i really appreciate all your knowledge, time and effort you put into these insightful posts and would be more then happy to pay for an annual subscription to your site. I really appreciate that you haven’t sold out to advertising anything & everything that comes your way. Your daily posts are fantastic but i worry about the amount of time you spend on these. I’m sure many of your followers would be very happy to receive just a couple of posts a week freeing up some one on one time with your mum or indulging yourself.I know in the very beginning there was the fiasco about asking for money. Don’t let that stop you from enabling people like myself who would like to contribute a small amount of money for the leg work that you put in. It’s my small way of saying thanks. Please give my warm regards to your mum.
Thank you so much Linda! Wow, that is so incredibly nice of you. Just getting this information out there and hearing that it is helping people is payment enough for me. I really believe that my finances will always be taken care of as long as I am true to my message and fulfill my purpose of using it to help as many people as I can. I appreciate your comment so much though, and it is always nice to know that I can have a little break when and if I need. My self care still remains my number one priority. Sending you so much love and appreciation xx
Possibly your best blog yet Jess. Thank you for sharing this vital information. Love what Sherrill had to share on this vid. I’ve had her book (Hormone Heresy) for years, which every woman should have in her library and share with her children, especially our daughters. x
Fantastic…thank you both x
Great interview Jess….it has opened up my eyes and with a 9 yr old daughter, the pill will be a no go zone when she’s older. Thanks for the brilliant information. xx
Thank you and Dr Sherrill Sellman for this wonderful video! This is an excellent wake-up call for everyone! Ciao
Thanks so much Jess for organising a fabulous video
Really got a lot out of it and keen to share!
Dr. Sellman has so much knowledge on the subject which is so important for all women. She explains it really well.
It is such a shame that most doctors don’t have the same knowledge and have been trained just to prescribe. Its very frustrating, when I hear from friends, that their doctor have advised them to take the pill to solve their hormonal imbalances and add that the symptoms are just a normal part of aging. So I share your feeling of frustration. Keep up the awesome work of getting the health message out there! It’s Life Changing!
Dear Jess
This post came at a perfect time where just last night my husband and I decided we want to start our own family. I can’t say I am completely balanced at this exact moment but will start putting in practice the things Sherrill mentioned, ie good diet thoughts and well-being!
Thanks so much Jess your site really helps me understand different issues using language that is so easy to understand and exceptionally helpful!
Jas x
Thanks so much Jess for bringing this to us. So many teenagers I know are on the pill for acne, period pain etc etc etc. My pre-menopausal girlfriends all go off and religiously have their mammograms. This information is invaluable to women of all ages. Thank you!!!!!
loved it will be sharing
such great info jess i look forward to learning more !!!!!
Hi Jess,
Well that was an amazing interview Jess.
Thank you very much to you and Dr. Sellman.
Kind regards, Lyall.
Hi Jess, thanks for all of the great info you give us. Many thanks to Dr Sellman also.
my hubby has a fairly rare condition (autoimmune most probably, but they are not sure) and the Drs are talking either Intragam infusions or Plasma Exchanges to reduce some antibodies. They are hoping these treatments will be helpful, but are not sure. I am pretty scared!
I understand you cannot give advice as such, but can you point me in a direction of some sort? We have been raw vegan for about five months (not organic though) and feel great. We will obviously give anything a try. I am a nurse within the NSW hospital system, and I would much prefer a natural, wholistic treatment!
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks and best wishes to you and your loved ones.
Kind regards, Claire
Try Dr Marilyn Golden. Her clinic is in the Chatswood area. I haven’t seen her but she helped a friend with some health issues. She is raw vegan and I am told she focuses heavily on diet. I hope this is helpful to you and I wish you both the best of luck.
Thanks Jen, will have a look. Really appreciate your help
)
Hi Claire,
Regarding auto-immune disease, may I suggest that you look at Dr. Rebecca Carley’s web site at http://www.drcarley.com
You can call her on skype at skype-name drcarley1 for a talk. If she feels that she can help you, you can go further, as in having a consultation. She is in North Carolina so to get her between say 9am and 4pm her time you would have to skype between 11pm and 6am N.S.W. time. She is ‘tops’ in the field of auto-immune disease and treatment. She doesn’t have a ‘flashy’ web site, and you might wonder what it is all about at first glance, but there is some fantastic information available there, especially in some of her links to her audios etc.
Kind regards, Lyall
Thanks Lyall, appreciate your help with this. I will have a look at her site
)
FANTASTIC. BRILLIANT. INFORMATIVE.
I was only just having this conversation today with some friends, now I will forward them this video.
Truly inspirational every time Jess. You are making a difference.
Amy
Hi Jess,
Can I ask about ultrasounds for breast examinations instead of mammograms? What are your thoughts on this.
Loved this post. thank you to you both so much xx
Thank you for sharing Jess ! I needed to hear about the Menopause. Looking forward to the Skype chats ! x
Such a great interview – I loved watching it!
I’ve become very sceptic when it comes to ‘the pill’, after being on it for about ten months.
It screwed up my sex drive, my weight, my gut and my mood. After a year off it, I’ve still not recovered, and believe me, I’ve tried everything.
The positive side effect, however, is that I’m able to get to know my body even better, as I’m experimenting with different herb, methods, foods, trying to find out what works for me.
Hi Karina
I am similar – I was on the pill for 10 years though and had few problems while on it (no acne, weight gain etc). I stopped taking it because my libido was so low last year, and have been dealing with problems with weight and poor skin ever since. My thyroid went out of whack, my moods were out of control, and acne like I’ve never had before! I am slowly treating all these issues holisticaly and naturally with slow improvements over 12 months later. I’m grateful that I have gotten to know my body so much better through this experience though – The Pill is a big regret of mine! I feel alot clearer in my mind and my libido is back now I’m off it, and I look forward to getting everything else back on track.
Chemical Castration!!! YIKES! Couldn’t have made it more clear – man, I wish that the Doctors wouldn’t push it so much, especially without ALL the facts. I took the pill for a short time and it was a nurse practitioner that possibly saved my life – when she linked my massive, halo inducing migraines to the pill. She gave me research that showed that my reaction to the pill could have caused a stroke had I taken it any longer. I’m so thankful that I got informed at a young age. This is a great video, thanks for the interview Jess! xo
Jess,
Thank you so much for creating this video. We really need to get this message out to more women. I was so lucky when I was diagnosed at the age of 37 with hormone problems that I got referred to an M.D. who also believed in natural health. She tests me with the Saliva tests and now that I am 39 I am still using the homrone creams but it is definitely under control. She has taught me so much about listening to my body and how important it is to reduce my stress levels. She has also been trying to coach me on my diet and i have made a lot of changes but near as many as I should.
I love how Dr. Sellman encourages the use of accupunture. I have personally found so much relief from acupuntcure. I look forward to each appointment and even my husband says that I come out of each appointment like a new woman.
Keep up the great work.
Hi Jess,
Thank you so much for posting this. I just discovered your site and I will tell you that I look forward to your daily emails! I think that what you’re putting out there is great information that all of us really need to hear, so thank you for your hard work.
Wishing you great health here from Hoboken, NJ, USA!
Thank you for this post .. I have been on the pill since I was 15.. I am now 26 and this interview has given me good reason to toss them in the bin and let my body do what its supposed to !!
Jess, thank you for this wonderful interview.
I found it to be incredibly affirming.
Blessings to you and Dr. Sellman.
thanks Dr Sellman and Jess that was a terrific interview… very clear and informative. xx
Wow! The Universe is trying to help me Jess via you. I have been reading your posts for a few months now and I never knew how much I’d need this information.(above)
Yesterday I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and a few lymph nodes (I am 34 and have a 10 month old baby boy)
I have been a health advocate for many years eating organic fruit and veggies, superfoods, lots of juice, etc…and all the other lifestyle choices like not drinking tap water,no flouride in toothpaste,no chemical products on skin or to clean my home. I rarely wear make up, I have my natural hair colour and don’t wear nail polish. So i’m kind of scratching my head as to what has happened. I was thinking hormones as I’d learned previously via David Wolfe that high estrone and estrodiol=cancer.
I’m seeing the Oncologist tomorrow who wants to take the usual method of treatment but my gut tells me otherwise. I know that chemo is more poison in my body and that i will become infertile and I am afraid. I need to be here for my little boy.
Any information is gratefully received xxx
Hi
I am being treated for breast cancer at the moment. I have improved my overall health by juicing, not eating dairy etc but I really believe you should throw everything at it to avoid regret in the future. It doesn’t stop you being pro active in your own health but with breast cancer you really should take the treatment offered because the success rates are so high. I recommend you read the book by Caron Keating’s mother called Next to you.
Hi Liz,
This is in response to your comment “you really should take the treatment offered because the success rates are so high”. I’m guessing that you mean chemotherapy, as in responding to Kelly talking about seeing an oncologist.
Oncologists and the medical establishments use the term ‘5 yr survival rate’ and don’t use the word ‘cure’. When an oncologist quotes a 5yr. survival rate, he is quoting the RELATIVE 5yr. survival rate, purposely leaving out the adjective ‘relative’. These are two different terms.
The Breast Cancer Network Australia quotes, “It is important to remember that most women survive breast cancer — latest statistics (2006) show that the 5-year survival rate for women diagnosed with breast cancer is more than 88%.” The web page does not comment as to whether this is for chemo, radiation, an operation, or for all three, and also the 88% would be the RELATIVE 5yr. survival rate. The actual 5 yr. survival rate for breast cancer using chemo is under 2%.
60% or 88% or something similar sound far better than less than 2%.
The term ‘relative 5yr. survival rate’ is a ratio used in the statistical calculations, and would better be termed as something like ‘relative 5yr. survival RATIO’. The Aust. medical establishments (A.I.H.W., A.A.C.R. & N.C.S.C.H.) have used the word ‘ratio’ and not ‘rate’ or similar, dropped the adjective ‘relative’ and have quoted a camouflaged term in their advertising.
I’ve seen the complex statistical maths used in chemo statistics. Being a retired civil engineer with a distinction in statistics, I can also say that the formulas are too complex to the point of being hypothetical, as in, uncertain (because statistics is not an exact mathematics when it becomes complex).
The Gerson therapy is far superior to conventional chemo and radiation.
Kind regards, Lyall
Oops, that should read:
The Aust. medical establishments (A.I.H.W., A.A.C.R. & N.C.S.C.H.) have used the word ‘rate’ and not ‘ratio’ or similar, dropped the adjective ‘relative’ and have quoted a camouflaged term in their advertising.
Hi Lyall
Thanks for the information. I got the results of my pathology yesterday and was told that three areas of invasive stage 2 breast cancer were found and that it was oestrogen +.My lymph nodes appeared to be clear so I dont need chemotherapy. They said that tamoxifen I had taken before the operation had not had any effect and that I should have my ovaries removed so you can see I now have different decisions to make.
Hi Liz,
It’s a difficult time when you have cancer, and having to make decisions. I haven’t had cancer but I can understand to a fair degree what you are going through as I had a different life threatening illness years ago. If I was in your position I’d speak to some most knowledgeable people outside of the conventional medical system. I’d speak to someone in the Gerson Institute in Mexico (Jess would be helpful here) and Bill Henderson & Rebecca Carley in the U.S. There are more. I have their contact details and other info needed. These people will help you increase your pH, strengthen your immune system, and set you on an amazing nutritional plan. You still have to do this even if you choose conventional medicine, otherwise there is still a chance of the cancer coming back.
Kind regards, Lyall
Hi Lyall
I would definitely appreciate any contact details or info you have. I live in Scotland.
Thanks
Liz
Re: Hi Lyall, I would definitely appreciate any contact details or info you have. I live in Scotland.
Thanks Liz
Hi Liz,
If you send an email to me at [email protected] I’d be happy to reply with some contact details and some good information on breast cancer. Also if you Kelly would like some good information just send me an email too.
Kind regards, Lyall
Hi Kelly,
The Gerson Therapy is one of the best for many cancers. This is Jess’ area of expertise.
There are other very good therapies /protocols such as Bill Henderson’s and Ty Bollinger’s protocols which incorporate the Budwig diet, and there’s Dr. Burzynski’s therapy (U.S.A.) etc. etc.
Chemotherapy is toxic to all cells (cytotoxic); it is most acidic; and it weakens (lowers) the immune system.
The body needs just the opposite to heal, being nourishment and not poisons; it needs to be alkaline to halt the further growth of cancer, and it needs a strong immune system to reverse the cancer (plus detoxing, exercise, de-stressing etc.). Conventional chemotherapy is just not ‘in the race’ when compared to the therapies and protocols mentioned above.
Chemo addresses the symptoms and not the causes. Patients can go into remission using chemo, but so often the cancer returns with a vengeance.
Kind regards, Lyall
Hi Kelly,
This is some more information that may help you in your decision. The following is from the U.S. National Centre for Biotechnology Information. See their medical publication at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15630849 regarding the 2004 study by the Dept. of Radiation Oncology, Northern Sydney Cancer Centre, Royal North Shore Hospital. I have the full report. This is ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’.
“ Aims: The debate on the funding and availability of cytotoxic drugs raises questions about the contribution of curative or adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy to survival in adult cancer patients.
Results: The overall contribution of curative and adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adults was estimated to be 2.3% in Australia and 2.1% in the USA.
Conclusion: As the 5-year relative survival rate for cancer in Australia is now over 60%, it is clear that cytotoxic chemotherapy only makes a minor contribution to cancer survival. To justify the continued funding and availability of drugs used in cytotoxic chemotherapy, a rigorous evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and impact on quality of life is urgently required. ”
Notice there is a 2.3% result and a 60% result. They have totally different meanings. It’s the 60% result that an oncologisst would quote to a patient as the 5 yr. survival rate from such a study, missing the adjective ‘relative’.
I could give you the side effects of the main chemo drugs used for breast cancer, but you can google these anyway. Kind regards, Lyall
I have been skeptical of the pill for a long time, so it’s wonderful to finally have the facts to back myself up now. I wish this was a topic more commonly discussed because so many people are so unaware of the risks. I would love to know what forms of contraceptives you do encourage that are a safe and toxic free?
LOVED IT. Great topic. Thank you both for sharing such important information. X
Hi Jess.. I am a new student at IIN and discovered your blog and have enjoyed reading your posts… You are an inspiration and have a wealth of information… Sharing is Caring is my motto as is yours.. Thank you..
I woke up this morning to send you an email to ask you if you had any information on Bio Identical Hormones and wha la, here you posted this great interview with Dr. Sellman…
I am 58 and still have everything in tact… Went through menapause about 10 years ago shortly after giving birth to my son at age 43.
I am currently on Bio Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (very low doses) and am having second thoughts about continuing it… Is there a difference between regular HRT and BIHRT?
I also get my mamo’s every year like so many women… I feel like a sheep being herded for the slaughter….aargh…
I just also heard that if a women did have a cancerous cyst, that the mear process of the mamogram could actually rupture the cyst and spread it! Yikes… Thank you for creating this video and I will be sharing it as well…
Our Health is our most valuable asset and we must invest in it wisely…
Laura
Wow Jess, fabulous timing. I have just gone off the pill 2 weeks ago after 10 years on and off it (I’m 29). I have had a sense that I need to clean up my body before my partner and I plan to conceive next year. I’m pretty good in general (off gluten, dairy and sugar) but so much more work to do. Great info in this video – really looking forward to the next installments and will purchase her book today! Maybe you guys could touch on the male side of things (you know, if you’re ever stuck for another topic!) I’m sure I’m not the only one concerned about their partners’ health influence in all of this baby making business. Thanks for what you do. X
Great post Jess!!
Can’t wait for the follow up videos! Thanks so much, this was very informative ![]()
Maybe future videos can tell us how to heal our bodies and bring them back to good health?
So amazing to hear Sherrill discuss this important topic that all women should know. I met Sherrill many years ago when she did a book launch tour of England and Wales and we have remained friends ever since. Your interview with Sherrill was amazing Jess – well done for asking the right questions. You are so lucky to be hearing this at your age. The earlier we can get to learn about our hormones the sooner we can take control of our bodies and not let the medical profession dictate how we should live. Woman are naturally instinctive and intuitive it goes with the biological make – up but very often we doubt ourselves and let others control how we should live. I have never taken the pill and have now crossed into menopause and feel free and in control of my body and I owe a lot of that to Sherrill and her shared wisdom many years ago,
Amazing! Thank you very much from a 65 year old grandmother. I have posted to facebook.
Really good this! Thanks so much!
Isn’t my friend, Sherrill Sellman, a wonderful advocate for us amazing women!!! Dear Kelly (above post) more and more of my patients are being diagnosed with breast cancer at younger and younger ages. In 1961 when I walked into nursing school, I never saw breast cancer under 65 years. With all of your healthy lifestyle, ‘scratching your head’ about what now, why with all you are doing. Sherrill touched on this several time: stress is probably the key to focus on: many times we are immersed in the healthy lifestyle paradigm but in doing so, we are often so stressed by incorporating these teachings that we put our immune system into intensive care. And I would be remiss if I did not ask if you ever experienced sexual or physical abuse that you have not healed. Or staying angry at your mate or family members for a perceived wrong. These negative emotions have a huge charge on our immune wiring, as each thought we have becomes part of our DNA and can alter our cells. Lastly, as I remind all my ladies that we tend to become mother martyrs, being sure that everyone else is taken care of first. The breasts represent self-love and nurturing. Have you nurtured yourself lately? xo
LOVE!! Haven’t heard of Sherrill before but so glad I have now! And even more glad my instincts steered me away from all this crap – my attempt at the pill for suspected endometriosis in my 20s lasted not even one month, I’ve stayed well away from mammograms and HRT, and, surprise, surprise, my menstrual symptoms are directly in proportion to the amount of sugar I eat during the cycle. Insane quantities of sugar as a teenager, crippling cramps and heavy, clotty, 7-day periods. Amount of sugar slowly decreased into my 40s, along with cramping clotting and flow/length of period, and recently went through an entire cycle with no sugar, resulting in an entire period with NO cramps clots or heavy flow. Sherrill speaks truth!
It would be infinitely helpful for me to know about any alternatives to the pill. I am in my early 20s but I have made decisions in the past that terrify me today regarding my future ability to have children. I am on the pill now, but hate putting all of those chemicals into my body and am having no period at all now as a result of them. I have been greatly upset by this lately and am so thankful for this wonderful interview for clearing up a lot of my questions. I would really appreciate any suggestions Dr. Sellman or any of you here may have in regards to alternative birth control methods that don’t increase chances of infertility later in life. Thank you so much!
Hi Jess! I’m just coming to your site for the first time and I really enjoyed this informative video! As a 38 year old woman on birth control pills for PMDD, I can use all the information I can get.
Thankyou beautiful women! Jess you are a conduit to truth. Dr Sherrill your words are soooo soothing to my ears .At last medical wisdom that we can trust . It is so confirming to hear these words from a respected profesional who is willing to challenge that scaffolding of untruths that society has been so willing to uphold. Such wise and caring guidance at a time when the need for drastic change is so evident.I do hope many get to hear your words! Thankyou again.
Wonderful, thank you so much for being the “Wellness Warrior women need to help us learn about this very important topics. Love your site!!!!
Great Interview, I will be looking futher into Dr. Sellman’s books
