4 Awesome Books I’ve Read Recently

I don’t know what it is, but all I have been feeling like doing lately is crawling into bed under my warm blanket and reading a book. It could be the cooler weather, or the fact that my boyfriend seems to have passed on his cold to me, but there is nothing else I would rather be doing. And so, in the name of extreme self care (in honour of the fourth book on this list) I am listening to my body and doing just that.

Here are four books that have been residing on my nightstand of late:

1. SUPER RICH: A GUIDE TO HAVING IT ALL  BY RUSSELL SIMMONS

He may be mega rich in dollars, but Russell Simmons has his priorities right. The hip hop mogul tells us all about why focusing on material wealth is not the key to lasting happiness, and shares strategies on how to get past perceived obstacles in order to live a life that is rich with love, friendship, compassion, purpose. When you are super rich, money is merely a by-product.

2. SPIRIT JUNKIE BY GABRIELLE BERNSTEIN

Part memoir, part guide, Gabby Bernstein show us how to transform our lives by making happiness a constant theme. Gabby shares lessons from her own life and teaches us how we can tap into our inner guides in order to create lasting happiness no matter what our external circumstances are. If you’re struggling to find peace in any sort of relationship, I highly recommend this book.

3. YOU CAN CREATE AN EXCEPTIONAL LIFE BY LOUISE HAY AND CHERYL RICHARDSON

I loved this book so much that I have dog-eared almost every page. It’s kind of like listening in on intimate conversations between Louise and Cheryl – two of my favourite teachers and leaders when it comes to using our thoughts to create our lives. Most of all, this book empowers us to really take control of the state of our lives and create something that is totally in alignment with what we really desire.

4. THE ART OF EXTREME SELF CARE BY CHERYL RICHARDSON

I am reading this book at the moment, and it really could not have arrived in the post at a better time. I have been exerting myself a little more than I would like lately, and I’ve come to realise that I need to create boundaries and put certain systems in place in order to relieve some of my workload. The Art Of Extreme Self Care takes this to a whole ‘nother level, giving us permission to disappoint people, say no to things, be sensitive, and put ourselves first at all times – in loving and respectful ways, of course.

I’m reading Spirit Junkie at the moment and I can’t put it down!

Thanks for the recommendations babe. I’ve got THIRTEEN books coming in to mail. So bloody excited!

I was recently given a copy of HEART THOUGHTS by Louise Hay. Its more of a coffee table book for me, colourful and bright, and a lovely design. I often pick it up and just focus on one topic and affirmation for the day.

I have also read Spirit Junkie, what I have never forgotten is my spirit always has your back and I am not alone!

Hi Jess,
After your recommendation I am going to buy extreme self care. Sounds great, and also a perfect time for me to read it.
I tend to read many inspirational books like the ones you have listed above but recently I decided that my mind needed a break and I just needed to have a great book a could sit down and laugh at. I bought : Lets just pretend this never happened by Jenny Lawson aka The Bloggess and I haven’t laughed so hard in my life. And it has also helped me emotionally at the same time by giving me perspective on things. I recommend this book to anyone.

I’ve been reading Spirit Junkie too! Amazing book, she really is the Marianne Williamson of our generation!!

Thanks for all your wonderful information Jess – I have become addicted to Marie Forelo’s youtube vid’s and am now hooked on Gabrielle Bernstein – her books are next on my list to read. Re the cold, have you tried Propolis? It is a tincture made from resin that bees collect during pollination. It is really good for boosting the immune system.

Meaghan » Thanks for the propolis tip, Meaghan. Yes I have used that before. I slept most of yesterday and my cold seems to have gone away today. I will keep that in mind if it come back though! x

Jess, at present I am reading Modern-Day Miracles by Louise L. Hay and friends. I am absolutely enjoying this book. It’s about all the miracles that have happened in peoples lives after reading Louise’s “You Can Heal Your Life” Book.

Hi Jess, I have come across your website only recently and it’s brilliant!! Thank you for the inspiration!! I’ve just read The Secret Language of your Body by Inna Segal. I love It!!

Sharon » Thanks so much Sharon! Ooh yes I have heard that is good. Will add it to the list :)

Thank you for the recommendations, Jess! I have a huge to-read list and will be adding these to the list! Love Louise Hay so much, as well as Gabby B. Spirit Junkie and Add more ~ing is definitely what I plan to read next! :D xx

Hi Jess,
I just read your post on Nat K’s website re headaches. It got me thinking. Do you ever see a GP for anything? Even preventative things eg pap smears?
Thanks for the book ideas.

Margs » Hi Marg, nope I don’t see a GP for anything. I don’t have pap smears because I am already doing everything possible to heal my body from cancer. There is no need to check up on it! I only see my doctor to get forms for blood tests. I see a naturopath for live blood analysis and iridology, and I speak to my Gerson Therapy doctors in Mexico and they monitor my complete blood tests. :)

Wow, Jess! This is amazing! Just after reading your post, I checked my inbox and found out that I’ve been lucky enough to win a weekend pass to the ‘I can do it! lectures in Sydney with Louise Hay and Cheryl RIchardson in August! I honestly can’t believe it! What a strange and amazing coincidence! Yey!! Thanks Jess! xx

Thanks for these recommendations. I’ve been curious about reading Gabby’s, but wasn’t sure if it would be worth it, given I’ve listened to a lot of her lectures. I’ll now add it to my line up!
I’m currently reading The Man Who Quit Money, and loving it. It’s a little different to what I had anticipated so far (I wasn’t ready for the religious background) but it’s actually proving a really interesting background and I’m already talking about the points it’s bringing up with my friends when we catch up.

Jess ,It would not be the end of the world if you did not post some days !
Love your posts –but you need some ME time !!

Hi Jess:

I’m currently hooked on Colin Tipping’s “Radical Forgiveness” (http://www.colintipping.com/strategies/radical-forgiveness-2/). His concept is turning into a powerful spiritual shift-in-thinking for me.

Thanks for the great recommendations above–I have “The Art of Extreme Care” and I’ll take a look into the others.

Feel better soon!

just read ‘you can create an exceptional life’ too. LOVED how sweetly it flowed.
Louise + Cheryl have a terrific ease about them. Just found you via IIN blog (I’m a fellow grad) and enjoying your beautiful website. Thank you for sharing your light with the world! My best, Lacy

i am re reading To Kill a Mockingbird. What a treat to read it as an adult. Atticus Finch could be the wisest man in fiction. plus I may have to buy Make Peace with Your Plate. Sounds awesome as does Spirit Junkie.

I love new book recommendations! I am a book junkie! Thank you for the recommendations. I already had Super Rich on my list of books to read, but hadn’t heard of the others.

I’m with you on crawling into bed and reading a book. I must admit I haven’t done that for a while! Some books on my reading list are:
Now, Discover Your Strengths – Marcus Buckingham
Meditation As Medicine: Activate the Power of Your Natural Healing Force – Cameron Stauth
The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles – Steven Pressfield
Plate to Pixel: Digital Food Photography & Styling
