1. THE FIRE STARTER SESSIONS
By Danielle LaPorte

A Soulful + Practical Guide To Creating Success On Your Own Terms.

I get a giddy feeling in my tummy whenever one of Danielle LaPorte’s newsletters pop up in my inbox, and I absolutely love everything that she produces – so when the publicist for her brand spanking new book offered to send me a copy I was beyond thrilled. It arrived last week in all of its bright orange, hard covered glory and I’ve been devouring it ever since. Written with her trademark mix of wit, poetic softness, and ballsy clarity, The Fire Starter Sessions is a tome that I just know will be my go-to bible as I set the wheels in motion for my future. She shows us how to gain authentic clarity around exactly what it is we want out of life. She tells us that we can most definitely have it all – we just can’t have it all at once. If you’re struggling with balance, have a blurry vision about anything, or just fancy being fuelled by constant inspiration, I suggest picking yourself up a copy.

You can read session one right here.

Buy The Fire Starter Sessions.

And watch this video. I have taken to watching it most mornings to inspire me to stay on track with my vision.

2. A RETURN TO LOVE
By Marianne Williamson

Reflections On The Principles Of A Course In Miracles.

I’ve tried reading A Course In Miracles, but most of it is so over my head that I have to read the same paragraphs over and over again. I can see why Marianne Williamson’s book – which takes the ideas from The Course and translates them for the layperson – has been so successful. Every page of this book blew my mind. It challenged my thinking in ways I could never have imagined, and has allowed me to see the universe as an even kinder place (and I already thought it was pretty kind). Marianne teaches us that nothing exists besides love, and that when we really grasp that notion life becomes so much easier. When we look at any situation with love, instead of fear, we really can solve any and all problems.

3. CANCER IS NOT A DISEASE IT’S A SURVIVAL MECHANISM
By Andreas Moritz

Discover Cancer’s Hidden Purpose, Heal It’s Root Causes, and Be Healthier Than Ever.

If you read this book with an open mind, it will change the way you think of cancer forever. Not only does it make complete sense, but the way Andreas Moritz explains his unconventional view of cancer as a survival mechanism (and not your body’s way of attacking itself) is backed up with so much evidence and support that it’s impossible to dispute it. This book made me feel even more empowered and in control of my fate. It’s one I recommend to anyone facing a diagnosis of their own, or of someone they love.

4. POWER FREEDOM AND GRACE
By Deepak Chopra

Living From The Source Of Lasting Happiness.

Reading this book made me feel safe. It made me realise that everything that is happening in my life is occurring either because I have manifested it – or because the universe is working in my favour. Everything is okay, and everything is always going to be okay. Read this book to discover how to live with ease, how to cultivate lasting happiness, and how to release imagined fears.

I’m LOVING everything by the Dalai Lama and devouring Lama Surya Das’s book Awakening the Buddha Within

I agree with you about ACIM. It has lived on my bedside table for almost two years and I try so hard to get through it. Every now and then, I cry into it when I’m completely lost and dark. Although Marianne’s translation is so accessible and beautiful.

I can’t wait for my Firestarter sessions to arrive and I’ll add Power Freedom & Grace to my Deepak wish list.

Special congrats to you for completing Gerson – your body must be completely in heaven by now xxx

“Dying to be Me” by Anita Moorjani. She has a near death experience, while in a coma, having (almost) succumbed to Leukemia, after a 4 year battle. She decides to come back from the NDE (rather than pass on) and proceeds to miraculously, completely heal – to the amazement and confirmation of many Doctors. She has gone on now, to travel the world with her message – which is “love yourself and live a life without fear”. Pretty amazing.

Tamera » I just ordered this one the other day. Can’t wait for it to arrive! xx

I bought this one a couple of weeks ago too and love it so much have read it through twice, and feel more to come over time. I love and appreciate how it’s not ‘preachy or teachy’ yet so profound.

I read Andreas Moritz’s book, Cancer is Not a Disease, It’s a Survival Mechanism. It was great reading about how cancer is not the enemy, and in fact, truly is a survival mechanism. He supports this fact with all the indisputable evidence, and it becomes clear how that it’s not the cancer we need to concern ourselves with, rather the reason it develops in the first place – and what to do about it. It’s a very empowering book. I like many of his books! They’re all great!

That is so funny – I just ordered Danielle’s book this morning! I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

I adore Marianne Williamson and went to see her in California about 2 years ago. She is the biggest spirit and personality packed in the tiniest body you have ever seen! I agree that the Course of Miracles is difficult. I have had it on my bedside table for years! I’ve been thinking about joining a group to study it.

I also recognized the author of the cancer book…he is the same author of the amazing liver and gallbladder cleanse that I have done a few times! Wow, I have pictures of the “aftermath”. Holy Cow, it was an amazing cleanse!

Hi Jess,

I recently read a review on ’20 Something, 20 Everything: A quarter-life woman’s guide to balance and direction’ by Christine Hassler. Before I order it, have you heard of it? If so, what are your views?

I am looking for a book that will address the 20s, as I am finding them somewhat confusing! I am about to turn 26 and am struggling with finding the balance and contentment between work pressures, expectations, and love and life.

Much appreciate your advice on where to seek answers/assistance.

Ps. I love reading your blog every day – and congratulations on finishing the two year Gerson therapy.

Molly » Hi Molly, I had not read or heard of this one but I’ve just had a look at it on Christine Hassler’s website and it looks really good. It sounds like what you are after! Thank you so much xxx

I am loving Hope’s Edgy by Frances Moore Lappe and Anna Lappe. It follows Frances and Anna’s journey as they travel around the world finding practical visionaries who are finding ways to combat world hunger and food insecurity.

I heard of The Fire Starter Sessions from Marie Forleo. It sounds like a fantastic book!

I have just finished reading My Spiritual Autobiography – Dalai Lama was just incredible. I really loved it.

Thank you for these great reviews – I’ve just ordered my copy of “THE FIRE STARTER SESSIONS”. It is so nice to hear what you are into reading at the moment.

Thank you for recommending A Return to Love! So far, wow!

Thank you for recommending these books. I am reading Course in Miracles. I love you Jess.

I absolutely LOVE the books by Andreas Mortiz! He is so talented and it is so very refreshing to hear another perspective about health, especially one that incorporates the soul as well. I know that he has taken a lot of heat for his perspectives, but all the more reason to listen to what he has to say! If you haven’t checked out his book “The Miracle Liver/Gallbladder Cleanse” then you must! I have met with him a few time and have gone through 10 flushes and it has changed my life!

As for Fire Starters- this seems like a perfect guide for an independent small business owner :) and I most definitely am going to take your advice and read it immediately!

LOVE your Suggestions!!!

Wow!!! I am most definitely going to get my hands on a copy of Danielle’s book. The part of her video that resonated with me the most was to stop saying “I don’t know what to do, I don’t know what to do”. This reminded me of how often I say this to myself and how disempowering it is! My new mantra “I’ll figure it out”

Thanks for sharing, this delivered the right message at the right time for me!! x

I just finished The Fifth Agreement by don Miguel Ruiz today, and it was great! It expands on his other book The Four Agreements. Highly recommend them! I plan on writing my favorite quotes from the book on my blog soon.

Thanks Jess….I ordered Fire Starter Sessions on the weekend aft reading your review. Have just started reading it. Thanks :)
