All hail royal jelly
It may not have a catchy marketing jingle like Aeroplane Jelly, but royal jelly is some seriously good stuff. It’s called jelly, but in actuality royal jelly is nothing like the sugar-laden and artificially flavoured dessert we begged for as kids. Throughout history, it has been regarded as “the fountain of youth and beauty”. It is a true superfood.
What is it?
According to superfood expert David Wolfe (as you can tell, I’m a little obsessed with him at the moment), royal jelly is one of the most magical and least understood superfoods in the world. Royal jelly is synthesised from the combination of pollen and honey within the bodies of a special group of young nurse bees. It is a thick, milky substance secreted from the pharyngeal glands. It is the only determining factor in the development of a queen bee from and ordinary bee.
What’s it got going for it?
Royal jelly contains B5 and other B vitamins plus amino acids, potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, and manganese. With such an impressive nutritional profile, royal jelly is widely touted for its vitality and energy promoting properties. It has a stimulating effect similar to caffeine, but without the negative side effects.
Royal jelly also rejuvenates and regenerates the body, inhibits the ageing process, helps maintain skin tone, alleviates arthritis pain, acts as an antidepressant, helps those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, enhances our ability to think clearly, treats hormonal imbalances and promotes a healthy heart.
What do I do with it?
You only need the smallest amount of royal jelly to reap its many benefits. It is extremely potent and consuming just half a teaspoon daily is enough to achieve longevity and receive adequate B vitamins. You can eat it straight off the spoon or add it to honey as a spread.
Where can I get it?
Ask for this awesome product at your local organic or health food store. If they don’t have it in stock, ask them nicely if they can order it in for you. Royal jelly is usually frozen or refrigerated to preserve its healing properties.
Have you tried royal jelly?
Positive affirmation for the day: I am forgiving and patient with myself.

Mine was $22.85 for a 50g tub. It is a tad expensive, but you only need the smallest amount. I only take about 5ml each week. x
I am buying some online right now
Hi Jess, love you blog and love your article. Curious as to how it is stimulating without sending the nervous system into flight or fight mode – hope you get what I mean. Carole
Hi Jess. Really enjoy your blog and following it regularly. On a side note I work in the photo industry and notice the pics you use are not credited or linked back to source. I wanted to respectfully bring this to your attention – it is so often overlooked in blogging the importance of adhering to copyright laws. There is an interesting article about this here:

Hope you don't mind a fan of your blog bringing this to your attention.
Cheers,
Cat
Hi Carole, I think I get what you mean. Natural products like royal jelly are full of energy-promoting vitamins which means they are stimulating but they are also gentle on the nervous system, unlike coffee. Does that make sense? Thanks! x
Hi Cat, Thanks for sending this article to me. As you said, this is totally overlooked in blogging so most of us have no idea we are breaking any rules by publishing pics we find on Google Images etc. I'll do some more research into this. Thanks! Jess x
